PRP Treatment Post-Procedure Instructions (Platelet Rich Plasma)

WHAT TO EXPECT:

 Day 1:

  • Erythema and red appearance. The severity will depend upon how aggressive the treatment was performed and how your skin reacts.

Day 2:

  • A reddish or pink hue and mild swelling may persist.

Days 3-7:

  • Skin will feel rough like sandpaper lasting up to 5 days. Do not use any sort of scrub to speed up this process as it can cause moderate to severe skin irritation.

 HOME CARE:

  • Avoid direct sun exposure for 10 days if possible.
  • Wash the face thoroughly a few hours after the treatment. Gently massage the face with tepid water and remove all serum and other debris (there may be some dried blood that you can remove at this time). You may use a very gentle cleanser avoiding any type with acids such as AHA and scrubs.
  • Avoid the sun and do not apply sunscreen the same day as the treatment unless it is paraben-free. Undesirable chemicals in most sunscreens can penetrate the skin causing irritation and possible breakouts.

For the first few days after treatment, the skin will be very dry and tight, the use of moisturizers or hydration is optimal. The moisturizer or hydrator needs to be paraben-free and will soothe the skin while speeding up the recovery process. Mineral makeup can be used beginning the day after your treatment.

After 2-3 days, you may resume your normal skincare routine. Vitamin A products are recommended, as well as peptides and growth factors. Avoid alcohol-based toners for 10-14 days.

Microdermabrasion/StemFacial Pre-Treatment

  • Avoid use of accutane 6 months prior to treatment.
  • Avoid sun tanning, tanning creams or sprays for at least a week before treatment.
  • Discontinue use of products containing alpha hydroxy acids (glycolic, lactic, etc), salicylic acid, retinoids (retin a, renova, differin, tazorac, etc), and topical acne products one week prior to your treatment.
  • Avoid sun tanning, tanning creams or sprays for at least a week before treatment.
  • Do not wax, tweeze, or use a depilatory on treated areas for a week prior to treatment.
  • Facial hair should be shaved a day before treatment.
  • Microdermabrasion is not recommended during pregnancy.
  • Avoid laser hair removal, laser skin rejuvenation, electrolysis, botox and dermal fillers for two to three weeks before treatment.

Microdermabrasion/StemFacial Post-Treatment

  • You may have mild redness and minimal swelling for a few minutes up to 48 hrs.
  • You may apply aloe vera or a cold compress. Post Procedure Kits are also available for purchase to help in the healing process.
  • Acne may flare up if the skin is congested as microderm helps to purge the skin of impurities.
  • Avoid exercise or excessive perspiration for 24 hours after the procedure.
  • Avoid direct sun exposure and tanning on treated areas for at least 3 days after treatment. Daily sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 is vital to maintain the improved skin.
  • Avoid use of the same products above for at least 3 days after treatment.
  • Do not wax, tweeze, or use a depilatory on treated areas for a week after treatment.
  • Some peeling may occur on the treated areas, applying a moisturizer twice daily will help minimize this effect.
  • Avoid scratching or picking at the treated area, this could cause unwanted hyperpigmentation.
